Douglas C-47 Skytrain
RAF, (Royal Air Force), designation: "Dakota"

While sitting, watching the Raven nestlings, I heard a low rumble of rotary airplane engines approaching. I was pretty sure it was a vintage WWII aircraft.
As it came into view I recognized it immediately as a C-47, the aircraft used for parachuting infantry behind the lines during the invasion of Normandy.
It was part of the Military History Expo at Orange Airport. (The black and white stripes on the body and wings reduced chances of attack by friendly forces.)

Twelve days previous was the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Normandy. Saturday, May 18, 2019, 9:38 a.m.
