I always experience both a sense of awe and sadness when walking this old turnpike. There's not a lot written about it, probably because it only existed as a corporation for ten years, 1809-1819. What I did find was from a single page in a fascinating old book at "Internet Archives" in San Francisco; "Turnpikes of New England." A great read for those of you interested in Quabbin history.
